As the temperature steps lower and the brief spell of sunshine starts to fade, I spot this early show of optimism for Spring as I walk by the tennis courts at the edge of the park.
I must say, like this daffodil, I am looking forward to Spring.
Yet another, for the 52 week challenge on looking ahead.
A good thought to look ahead to spring and have evidence of it coming in the shape of this daffodil. There are a few out in my brother's garden this week and it's a cheery sight.
I expect this lonely daffodil is one of the tough variety. It must be a bit of a shock for it to flower so early. Hopefully Spring is just around the corner.
It will be here before we expect... The Italian singer Fabrizio De Andrè made his own wonderful version of Mr. Lee Masters' "The chemist" and a couple of verses say "Spring doesn't knock at your door, she enters bold, / like some smoke, she does filter through every crack..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd2Ww_n-jDo (Minute 1,42)
I always used to associate daffodils with March, but they seem to be around so early now a days.... I like that you took this shot from behind the flower, so the daff is "looking forward" too.
@motherjane I noticed that our snowdrops were out at the front just after Christmas. Seem to be earlier each year. These daffodils are definitely earlier than last year. @dide Thank you Dianne, kind of you to say so. @flowerfairyann obviously there is much of winter still to get through, but it seems easier when the signs of spring are present. @helenacharles thank you Helen. The spring flowers are out earlier each year, it seems. @carolmw thank you Carol. It is so cold here today, Spring does seem a long way off, but it is encouraging to think about it. @wag864 I was surprised to spot the daffodils out so early, indeed. @graemestevens my apologies should I have caused nightmares - although I rather get the feeling that you might enjoy your nightmares. @rosiekind isn't it Rosie. More so each year. @helenm2016 thanks Helen, I hope you atleast pick a bright, blue sky sort of day to return. @onewing I am afraid we will be in for a bit more of a wait before we see spring, but the early signs are cheery. @suzanne234 Yes, I look forward to getting the colours back (although confess to having severely muted the colours in this!) @redandwhite thanks Catherine. @moonmtn I would rather think that we are past the shortest day, than that winter has officially just started. It seems to be a more encouraging way to look at things. @gaylewood thank you Gayle @kwind thank you Kim. @taffy I am not surprised - it would seem that you temperatures are particularly severe right now. @domenicododaro those words would seem to be a pertinent and accurate description of the entrance of spring. thank you for providing the musical version. Much appreciated. @judithg yes I agree. They bring hope. @stephanies thank you Stephanie. I did that pov to fit in with the looking forward theme deliberately. I too thought March was the right month for daffodils - looking back to last year, the unopened flowers were showing towards the end of January. Not this early though.
