Walking the dogs this afternoon, Mac drew my attention to this dead tree, where a posse of rowdy rooks were congregating. He probably regretted it a moment later as I had to stop and take pictures of course! The rooks were all balancing on the very ends of the branches shouting at each other. They were definitely trying their best to look all sinister and eerie, but the effect was more comical really - it reminded me of a Quentin Blake illustration.
Originally I'd planned to make today;s picture a World Cup Special but decided to go with this instead. Mac and WIll went to watch the England-USA match at our village pub but I decided to stay and watch at home where I could have the entire sofa to myself and didn't have to queue for a drink - oh, dear, I am getting so old. Even more so, because watching the poor England goal-keeper make a terrible mistake, my heart went out not just to him, but to HIS POOR MUM - who must have been watching! Will has always played in goal and I spend every match watching him, praying that he won't make one of those mistakes - and that's only at Under 11 local level! If you're a forward and miss a shot on goal everyone forgets about it, but if you're the goalie and let the ball slip out of your hands, you're dooooooomed.
Those rowdy rooks are great, how do they do that,!? You'd think the flimsy twiggy branches would bend too much under their weight! Oh that poor goalie, we did go to the pub to watch the match, arriving 5 mins late (had to get the right white top and red scarf on) and missing the only Eng goal, and when he fumbled with that ball and let it trickle into goal and crawled on all fours after it, it was so excruciating, was expecting him to burst into tears....but then as I said in the pub at least he's quite cute!
What a wonderful silhouette this made! The birds couldn't have posed better for you! I loved all your commentary as it's so full of your local colour, whether you realize it or not! "Rooks" aren't birds I'm familiar with, and there's the part about "queing" for beer, and even feeling the pain of the mother of the goalie in the soccor game! I Iove this 365... it's the loveliest sampler from the world community!
