A Work Of Art

Today is a very special day - Ed's 17th bday - but he doesn't like having his photo taken and would probably rather not make an appearance here, so I will just say a special happy birthday - by a stroke of luck his school had all been given the day off due to an open day, so he got to have a long sleep-in and then spend some time with his friends before coming home for birthday cake for supper.

Meanwhile I spent the day at St John's College School in Cambridge as part of their World Book Week. I was so excited to see a lovely display of maps the Y3 and Y4 students had drawn - inspired by the map of Castle Key island in the Adventure Island books (not, I hasten to add, drawn by me, but by the the super-talented illustrator!). The children's maps were all fabulous, and the job of picking out winners for their competition was almost impossible. This beautiful map was drawn by a boy in Y3 - which means he is only 7 or 8 years old. An artist to watch out for in the future, I think!
Three Good Things
1. Ed! (who said his cherry and almond birthday cake was yummy even though Will and I managed to burn it last night and had to cut the carbonised edges off and then cover the mangled sections with extra marzipan!)
2. Meeting lovely children who have read my books
3. Jam sponge and custard for pudding - I love school lunches!
Happy belated birthday Ed it is a shame we missed you yesterday..... love this drawing it is very good
