In normal households a jar of picallili can happily have a life expectancy of several years, quietly lurking at the back of the pantry. No such luck here. Two of our number consume the stuff in industrial quantities and we single-handedly keep the several picallili companies in business with a jar every week or so. So, with the runner bean glut in full swing, I decided it was time to try my hand at a bit of pickling - there'll be six jars of this to eat in a few months time - that should give us going for a week or two!
