Picking up WIll from his Duke of Edinburgh expedition. He seems to be in one piece; more than can be said for his walking boots (borrowed from Mac). The sole of one had completely detatched (how does that happen?). Luckily it happened only a few hours from the end of the march, so Will was able to wear his trainers for the last few miles.
This is such a hard but worthwhile challenge. Very late to do this too....wouldn't fancy camping just now! Lydia finished her gold bit at the beginning of September , it was so hot so not sure which is worse!
Well done Will. I don't know how Will did it but Dave and I were on an Alpine walking holiday with a company called Holiday Fellowship. We had taken the cable car up to the start of the walk in the Zillertal Alps. The walk was unbelievable, 7 miles with 1000ft of ascent/descent. We had walked from a high dam on up into Italy for lunch! No passports required! On the descent my walking book caught a stone protruding from the ground and just like Will the sole detached and flapped!! Luckily between all the walkers we managed to get enough rope and laces to tie it back on until I got back down. Instead of a relaxing soak it was into trainers and shopping in Mayerhofen for new books (which cost much more than they would in England!)
I love mountain walking burst sadly my knee could no longer cope with the descents.
