For this week's color challenge, I thought I was going to have to photograph either the color brown of gray, because that's about all the color we have left now. But, the sun came out this afternoon and I found some color lurking among the dreary dregs of autumn.
A dogwood. I love them, but we are just too far north and our yard is too unprotected for them to do well. I love how they turn so brilliantly reddish-orange in the fall.
@homeschoolmom - Lisa, there's north and then there's north, I guess. Here in my part of Indiana, the land is so flat that in the winter we tend to get colder than it seems we should because there's nothing to stop the Canadian winds. And the dogwoods that I grew up with in Virginia can't handle that quite that much cold. In southern Indiana, tho, they do quite well. Go figure.
@hoosierhokie I know Indiana well (lived in Fishers last year on north side of Indy). I'd love to be back in Indy right now. Freezing cold here. I'm surprised that anything grows up here. We hardly had a summer. It was cold in early August.
@hoosierhokie And people up here often say to us "Oh, you just moved here from IN, no wonder you have a southern accent!" LOL! They have no idea. I'm already tired of hearing "er" pronounced as "ah!"
@pflaume @olivetreeann @paintdipper @elisasaeter @cazann Thanks!
@kathyladley Thanks, but I hope winter hold off until we move next summer! LOL!
