I've always heard these called tulip trees. But, a few years ago, I found out they were a type of magnolia tree, although they are quite different from the giant magnolia trees that grow here in the South.
I grew up in Washington state and had never heard them called anything but magnolia trees. it wasn't until I moved to the South that I heard them called tulip trees. This is a beautiful shot of this one.
