Ice needle are a winter phenomenon here after a rain. We had rain Sunday and Monday and cold Tuesday and Wednesday These ice needles were sticking up out of the sand about 3 inches near a major intersection in town, which is at the northern edge of the Sandhills. My son took similar photos a few weeks ago out on the property where they hunt.
