My daughter helps with this church during club on Wednesdays. It’s for the local kids, most of which are either gypsy or Muslem. Many beg to come in, even though they are only 3 or 4 and too young.
Two little girls called to my daughter as we were walking up the street. They were leaning out a second story window yelling, “Victoria! Victoria!” She called them the two Marias, two of the girls who were too young for club. Two other girls about 8 could not get over that I was her mother. They asked the other intern Mikayla if I was her mother too. Victoria’s particularly fond of one little boy who is 5 named Ricardo. She said she just wants to take him home and give him a bath and take him to the dentist. A few of the kids are well fed and clean, but several are too thin and have lice. Their neighborhood is the poorest in Marseille.
At club, they learn songs in French, English and Spanish; learn about God; and often receive tutoring in various subjects since most of them don’t go to school. She’s going to miss them when she leaves next month .
Sad to know that in a non-third world country that people still live without so much. But they still have human emotions and it's good that your daughter is able to bond with them. It may help reduce future distrust of people not like them.
Very nicely composed photo here.
