Scales of dinner! by homeschoolmom

Scales of dinner!

My husband and boys went ice fishing Saturday and caught nearly 20 fish. However, they only brought home 12, 11 large perch and a trout. While trout don't have scales (something I didn't know, in spite of the large number of trout I have consumed in my lifetime). Perch have large scales that I ended up cleaning off the fish so that I could cook them for dinner. Because it was so cold outside, I had to do this in my kitchen prep sink. Now I have scales all over my kitchen!
Nothing nicer than fresh fish for supper! Enjoy!

@lynnilou Thanks. They were fabulous! Most of them are in the freezer, but the 2 perch and half a trout we ate were really yummy. My husband doesn't really like fish, but even he said they are good. I've been telling him for years that fresh fish taste nothing like frozen, breaded fish you buy in the store.

Ugh, those scales have got to be hard to clean up! This worked well as a macro shot (and you had a yummy dinner)!

@paulam Once they dry, they sweep up easily. But, we are finding "fingernails" all over the house!

Great "catch"! I'm not much for fish, but bring me Shrimp and I'm all over it!

@kathysview I love any kind of seafood. I'm really enjoying the fresh lobster up here in New England this year!

They are persistent aren't they. I love fish but hate descaling

@ceilidh I bought a little tool at Wal-mart which removes the scales quite easily. Helped a lot!

@ceilidh It's back in the fishing supplies. I had to buy a filet knife, too!
