Chip! by homeschoolmom

Chip!

Just like Disney's Beauty and the Beast, we have a "Chip." This cup got broken in our move from Illinois to Indiana. The moving company was supposed to replace it, but it isn't made any more, couldn't even find it online. We bought our china, pattern Kaiser Mondial, in Germany more than 20 years ago. So, this what I can see in my china cabinet that is broken.
Oh, that's too bad! In all my gazillion moves, I've never lost anything breakable. Plastic stuff - yes! Lots of lost things - rugs, tricycles, a shelf from a bookcase(?)

@timandelke We had this chip, but we have 14 of them, so it's not such a big deal. Just when we got to IN, it was on top of the very first box we opened. Then they brought in a door to our German Schrank (living room entertainment center) and a corner of it was broken. It's also 20 years old, solid oak. Luckily, a friend is a master cabinet maker, so he fixed it good as new. But, other than that, we've been quite lucky in moves, too.

Is that a piece of Lenox? It's beautiful

@digitalrn Thanks. It's Kaiser china from Germany. You can't tell from this angle, but there's a gold rim around the top, too.

So sad...

What a pity, it's a beautiful cup

In Kindergarten we said broken cups bring luck! :D Sad in this case though..

@cmc1200 @ceilidh Thanks!
@justaspark In this case, maybe it has. The move after this one went very well. Let's hope the move this summer goes well, too!

I'm hoping for you too. :)

@justaspark Thanks! Three big moves in 3 years, I'm ready to stay put for a while!

Oh, sounds stressful - where are you moving this time?

Did you try Replacements Unlimited? They are a bit pricey, but a friend who is into antique dishes has had lots of success with them. The other place I'd try is eBay. There are a lot of people selling things on there! She has found several pieces that way as well. Sorry about the lousy moving company, but the picture does make for a good story!

It does look like "Chip"...lol! Sorry for your loss but how lucky to have a twin with a story

@justaspark North Carolina. Hopefully we will be there 3-5 years. But, you never know. We are only here in NH for 11 months and we were in IN for 15 months (we were supposed to be there 3 years).

@olivetreeann I probably should look again. Two years ago, every search we came up with showed none available. We got a price of $20 a cup, but no cups. I found some other pieces, like the gravy boat, though.

@lafish Thanks!

Shame it can't be repaired.

@seanoneill If I only had the chip, I probably could repair it some, but the chip was ground to dust practically.
