We've had a hard time finding good sushi here in NC. The Japanese restaurant in town has great sushi, but only a couple of days a week. No grabbing some sushi from the grocery store for lunch. So, we're trying to learn to make our own. This is one of our creations! It was pretty good.
There is so much talk about sushi. I am not a fish person, and the thought of raw fish (I know not all sushi is raw) but I guess one day I must try it and then I can give an honest feedback
Good for you! It's not a top choice of mine, but I have had some which was made by a gourmet chef. Hard to top that! Eel was very interesting and surprisingly I liked it!
@digitalrn Our favorite are shrimp California roll, which is what we have attempted to make here. It has a piece of shrimp in the middle (sometimes regular California roll has a fake crab meat), julienne cucumber, avocado, all wrapped in Nori (the seaweed wrap) and rice. It took me a while to get used to the seaweed. I used to take it off, then I got used to it. Now I'm totally addicted to it. I like smoked salmon, but that's the only raw seafood I'll eat. @olivetreeann I've seen the eel but never tried it. My favorite has shrimp or smoked salmon, I can't get enough of that. @swilde Thanks!
@shawnasays Thanks! @melanierivers I will check at the Commissary, they might have it. Our local grocery stores have nothing like that. In the Midwest and New England, I could buy really yummy sushi at the grocery store. Not here. I guess the South doesn't like sushi! LOL! I will check on Amazon if I can't find one, that's a great idea. Thanks for the tip!
Great macro of this pretty sushi! We are lucky to have an International food market right in town--they make their own sushi and it's delicious. Yep, I think the midwest is really fond of sushi!
@paulam Yeah, there is nothing like that in rural NC. Maybe if we drove into Raleigh or Durham we could find that, but Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly just don't carry the good stuff.
