Holy Trinity, Micklegate by if1

Holy Trinity, Micklegate

077 - This parish church has a long and complex history. It is thought to have once been the site of a Saxon church. Later the Saxon church was replaced by a Benedictine Priory whose construction began in 1089.

Today it is a very welcoming parish church. At the west end of the nave is a fascinating exhibition about the priory and the lives of the monks, which is well worth a visit.

The exterior is surrounded by buildings, making it difficult to photograph, but the approach to the entrance gives an interesting viewpoint.

Great composition with the greenery, awesome shot!

@collin

Thank you - it's a fascinating building, and there is a fascinating exhibition at the west end of the nave covering much of it's history. There is also a small but lovely modern sculpture of the Trinity in the nave, which I want to get a photo of when I get chance

Thank you, and I agree, old buildings are a great subject. We are very fortunate in York to have so many. I'm trying to pick out some of the ones less likely to be seen by visitors

@marieooi

Thank you Marie. I love the buildings here that are built of limestone. It's a lovely stone, and when (or if?) the sun shines, it develops a lovely warm quality. Perhaps one day the sun will return, and I can illustrate the effect for you!
