128 - Towards the right hand side of yesterday's shot is an alley called Lady Peckett's Yard, which contains one of York's hidden gems - another beautiful timber framed building.
The alley itself is Viking in origin. The current main road (Pavement) was a Viking main road, and the alley at right angles to it is one of numerous alleys that would have existed in the 10th century, to give more traders access to passers by than could be fitted into the main street itself.
Many of the buildings in this alley are of medieval in age, but are rarely seen by visitors, unless they are taking part in a guided tour of the Snickelways (see http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-05-10 ). What a shame that more people don't get to see such gems.
Part of what I love about 365 is that I get to see these gems through photography. Thank you for posting another amazing historical photo! It's awesome!
You've done this beauty justice Ian! Unfortunately all my picks of York are pre digi cam (mine that is) and scanning them would just not turn out so well. Lovely capture!
I love this shot. I visited York many years ago and love the medieval feel of the town. Love Edinburgh's wynds for the same reason. You have captured this really well :)
Thank you Lizzy, and thank you for the fav! Glad you like this shot, there will be more of York city centre to follow over the coming weeks.
Thank you Lydia, glad you are enjoying the tour. I'm sure you would enjoy York if you got chance to visit.
Glad to have you along - I hope you enjoy the ride!
Thank you Sarah - the journey continues.....
Thank you Caren, glad you are enjoying the tour!
Thank you Junan, glad you like it!
Thank you Brian - it's ages since I was last in this alley, so it's interesting to revisit it!
You're welcome Marie - perhaps we should arrange a 365 convention in York so that everyone can enjoy the real thing!
Thank you, glad you like it - it's been hard recently to get shots without rain somewhere in the frame!
I'm sure you would enjoy it here Bob!
Thank you Frida, glad you like it! @frida
Thank you Noelle, glad you like it - and I agree about Edinburgh, it's a fascinating place to explore.
