Gert and Henry's by if1

Gert and Henry's

133 - Gert & Henry's Restaurant is located next to the busy York market in the heart of York at 4 Jubbergate. It is housed inside a beautiful old Tudor building that dates from 1600AD.

It is another of the properties owned and preserved by York Conservation Trust, having been bought by them in 1957.

I'm not sure I really appreciate the name - it was once the 'White Rose' restaurant, a far more appropriate name for a restaurant that serves traditional English meals!
Beautiful building...great shot! FAV

Yes,I always think of it as the White Rose ----fond memories of dashing from the Tec' collage down Clifford St at twelve noon for a cheap lunch !!

@collin

Thank you! - I seem to think there was a large white rose emblem over the door when it was the White Rose?

You've captured the feel of this old house very well. I think it would have been an hall house originally and the White Rose of Yorkshire would be a more appropriate name.

@if1 Yes that's quite right.

@janek

Thank you Jane. It's fascinating to see how many of these buildings have evolved.

Love this. Immediately thought of a lodge in Vermont we visited back in the 70's...it is much more commercial in most respects now, so it is nice to see places that keep their character in tact!
