231 - One of the best known buildings in York is the city's Minster. It has featured a few times before in my project, but much of it can't be seen at present because of ongoing restoration work.
Once much of this work went on hidden from view, but there is now an open workshop beside the minster where the stonemasons can be seen at work carving new pieces to replace the badly eroded stones of previous centuries.
Here, on the left, one of the stonemasons is at work carving a piece of stone, while on the right a completed piece awaits it's turn to be installed in it's place in this magnificent structure
Thank you Louise - I saw that item too! Not only are they working on the great east window ( a project that will last another two years ) but also on the south entrance, so lots of work going on.
Thank you Pyrrhula, it's good to see old skills being used - I just hope they are allowed back indoors to work in the winter!

Thank you Jen - it's amazing how good the new pieces look when put into the building!
