345 - The development of York's cycle network has opened up some interesting places to walk or cycle. Here on the National Cycle Network route 65, north-west of York, there is a very pleasant link between the route beside the River Ouse and Stripe Lane, following the course of a small beck called 'Hurns Gutter'.
This track runs on the top of a low embankment and meanders between the trees. For cyclists the route leads from the city towards Beningborough Hall and onwards to the North York Moors and Middlesborough.
For those who like a short walk it gives a circular walk along the cycleway, then along Stripe Lane to the pleasant village of Overton and back by the riverside path.
Before the development of this cycle track, this area was inaccessible to the public, and was seriously overgrown.
Thank you all for your comments, they are much appreciated! The meandering path is a bit exaggerated by the zoom lens in this shot. To me the big plus about these cycle routes is that they are still usable in winter because they have proper surfaces, while many field paths are impassable following several flood events and prolonged periods of rain.
Also they are mostly LEVEL which my knee appreciates!
A nice shot Ian.
