Bridge over Hurns Gutter by if1

Bridge over Hurns Gutter

346 - Close to the place where yesterday's shot was taken, the track takes a sharp left turn over this attractive little bridge, and then a sharp right turn to follow the opposite bank of the stream called Hurns Gutter.

I like the fact that the bridge is not only practical, but it is also an attractive design which adds to the pleasure of travelling along this cycle route.

The cycle route itself has been transformed since yesterday. A heavy fall of snow yesterday afternoon and evening disappeared overnight as temperatures rose, and daytime temperatures reached around 8 degrees centigrade - positively tropical!

This left the surface layer of mud that had been deposited on the cycle track over the winter by the river in a very unpleasant state. Walking along the wet, slippery and muddy surface was very hard work today!
nice design, this little bridge

A child's climbing frame over a bridge, now there's a novelty.

What an interesting bridge.

Nicely captured shapes, colours and function. Looks like it might be a little over-engineered for a bicycle path 8-) Should last.

Lovely little bridge!

interesting, looks like the bridge is trying hard to be fun and chirpy but having a hard job of it in drab weather conditions. It looks like its dying for some paint and a sunny day! nice shot!

Thank you all for your lovely thoughts and comments! I'm not sure why it has such an odd unfinished looking colour scheme, it would be nice to see it redecorated properly! I'm also impressed by Lee's suggestion that it looks like a child's climbing frame - perhaps it is!

Such an interesting bridge!
The base structure looks very strong and the sides do not add strength to the structure.
The hoops intrigue me - do they make riders have to dismount!
Thanks again for another great photo!

@lizzybean

Thank you Lizzy - it reminds me of a miniature of the Forth Rail Bridge in Scotland.

@andrewrome365

Thank you David - the structure needs to be strong because the stream can flood above the height of the bridge deck. Although the bridge is narrow, it is wide enough for a cyclist to ride across. The upper structure is decorative, and reminds me of the Forth Rail Bridge in Scotland
