347 - Along the cycle route 65 north west of York, there are a number of places to stop for a rest. Seats take a variety of forms, but these two make good use of redundant farm equipment.
Both have suffered the effects of recent flooding, but the lower one in particular has quite a lot of vegetation debris around it, deposited by the flood water. It has also developed a backward lean as it has sunk a little into the muddy ground.
Thank you all for your encouraging comments! One of the nice things about Sustrans, the organisation behind many cycle routes in the UK, is that they have many examples of public art along the way, these benches being two of them. There are two other cycle routes with public art in the York area, and I hope to cover parts of them quite soon. The other thought that struck me was that placing benches along cycle routes and in other public places seems to have become quite fashionable again recently, often as a memorial to a lost love one. I appreciate these very much, since I've often come across them at attractive vantage points on my walks, and they are a good excuse for a rest!
I did some art benches in the past : http://365project.org/pyrrhula/365/2011-06-25 and more and less
