The end of the year high school band concert always starts off with the Jazz band. There is no time in the roster for Jazz band, so the students only come together after school for some rehearsals. Every time my daughter Nadya says she won't do it, but every time she is there because the director asks her. Also, on the program is says Nadya - piano, but for the last 3 concerts she has played the drum-set for the second number, quickly swapping places with a good friend. I wonder how it will work out next year, because he won't be there as he is a senior and just graduated.
They are a dedicated group to practice on their own. It sounds as if they really need more respect and given some official time and sponsorship to truly flourish.
