marche du nain rouge by jackies365

marche du nain rouge

an eight year old detroit tradition is the marche du nain rouge. it's a parade based in a supposed 300 year old tradition of detroiters gathering on the Sunday after the vernal equinox to thwart the plans of the nain rouge to bring on the demise of the city. the costumes are so the nain rouge will not recognize the citizens. it celebrates detroit as a city that refuses to give up and all things good instead of the outlook of gloom! a new beginning!
love the costume and your photograph of the tradition - thank you for the story too
