What a great picture of a historic building and mural. Sears used to be a big part of everyday life. You could even order a house that came in pieces and you put them together. After you used the catalog up and a new one came, the old one was retired to the outhouse. (Colored pages were the last to go.)
We did 3/4 of our Christmas shopping on Amazon this year. It was so easy. It is sad though to see things change especially when they have been around so long. I love this photo!
I've found it interesting that mail order catalogs have been around for decades, and that sales model never brought down the brick and mortar stores. But make the catalog electronic, and it changed everything. And the differences in the processes aren't drastically different. Instead of mailing in your order, you click it in...saving what, just a couple of days in the overall process. And that's enough to take down retail. Wow.
Love this fading grandeur. I mourn the retail industry changes too. I still walk up to my High Street daily for food but many of the shops have changed into second hand charity shops or cafes now. It's getting harder to get everything you need in person.

Thank you so much for commenting on my photo of the brick wall with the fading sign of Sears & Roebuck. This is in the tiny village of Madrid, New Mexico. It's amazing that there was once a Sears in the village and that now Sears in big malls are struggling.
