The entire Acoma reservation has many square miles and modern housing, but the original village atop the mesa is small and without any utilities, though each building is still inhabited. The old houses there were first built around 1150 AD, and have been repaired ever since. The residents now bring in water in their private vehicles, but in earlier days, the natural potholes in the rock surface provided their water.

Thank you so much for commenting on my photo of the building at Acoma Pueblo with the reflection in the pothole of water. Our guide said that these homes are passed down to the eldest daughter. She was a third daughter, so she would not inherit a home; however, her grandmother owned one. Even though they are old and without utilities, they are modern and comfortable inside, and full of priceless art. Some of the people have electric appliances and generators for emergencies, "you know, like if the Superbowl is on." Our guide had a university degree in communications.
