Soup's on! The beef and barley's been simmering for over an hour. It smells so good. Now it's time to add the carrots. Potatoes come next, and then my Mom's secret ingredient — a can of Campbell's Tomato Soup. Why so many of her recipes include a can of Campbell's Tomato Soup remains a mystery, but I don't mess with a good thing. This hearty soup's headed for the freezer. I'll thaw it while camping and reheat it in the Dutch oven over the campfire, serve it with some charred bread. We're headed out with The Dreamcatcher soon, and camping in October has a special kind of magic!
We got a delightful notice via e-mail: children are invited to trick-or-treat at the campground for two hours. I love — LOVE! — handing out candy, but we don't get trick-or-treaters here at home on this wooded hillside. After 21 years, at last!
