When I brought home a hyacinth bulb from the grocery store a few years back, who knew that impromptu purchase would lead to my falling in love with forcing spring bulbs to bloom in winter? Shortly thereafter, my dear friend Connie bought me an amaryllis bulb; and this year my dear husband enrolled me in a monthly bulb garden club. I got my first shipment, and I'm over the moon! Dainty paperwhites, white as snowflakes, bloomed this week. Hyacinths, tulips and an amaryllis will bloom alongside them as we enter the new year. It may be winter outside but, inside, it feels like spring; and it's no secret that spring's my favorite time of year. I may be doing a happy dance.
