a male donkey that hasn't been castrated is called a 'jack'. Jack isn't a jack, but he sometimes behaves like a jack, as Lilly our only girl donkey (a jenny) can testify.
A 'rig' is a male donkey that has been castrated in order to turn him into a gelding, but has accidentally had bit of testicular material left behind. This causes him to behave in a 'riggy' way (i.e. like a jack.) Jack has had blood tests to check to see if he has the hormones that would prove that he is a rig, but he isn't, he is just a gelding called Jack who occasionally displays riggy behaviour.................... just in case you were wondering.
Bit of a boring day but it was just great to see a bit of sunshine for once. I took my camera out into the field, but the photos weren't quite what I had been hoping for, so, here you go, here's Jack (who isn't a jack.) I let the donkeys out onto a bit of land that they don't normally go on this morning, they were hilariously skittish, seemingly thinking that they had got away with something that they shouldn't have. I couldn't get anywhere near them.
three good things:
Carol King - we sang some of her songs at choir tonight
seeing one of my pics in the top ten this week - v exciting and a couple of mine being mentioned as people's fave faves of the week - very, very flattering - thanks Kathryn and Lisa
I am not Julie Burchill (she was on Desert Island Discs this morning - I kind of wanted to like her, but didn't even come close to it)
I had exactly the same experience with La Burchill! And for the entire programme I couldn't get over her voice, either. I had no idea she sounded like that - it kept surprising me anew.
Poor poor Jack out there with Lilly when he is a gelding and starts to feel all riggy around the Jennys poor poor Jack.Nice photo of poor Jack can almost see a tear in his eye.
He looks like perhaps he is pondering his lost manhood.
I love the image of them running around like they had gotten away with something. Such characters. LOL
