Thought this photo fitted quite well with the vibe of the day. My kids are both on holiday and basically that is what they have spent most of the day doing. It was quite a blessing when one of Sam's friends called to see if he wanted to go and stay at theirs tonight, just to split them up.
Had art group this afternoon. I was looking forward to it because in the next block of 6 sessions we are concentrating on drawing and painting animals and I had a few ideas that I was looking forward to trying out, so was a bit disappointed when I got there to discover that some of the other members had requested that as it is Easter we could paint eggs. In fact I really enjoyed it. I am usually a very messy, large scale, get myself covered in paint and charcoal kind of 'artist,' (I use the term very loosely) so the fine detail and concentration required to paint a blown hen's egg was definitely going against the grain. I did find myself going dizzy from holding my breath on a few occasions. I have often found that concentrating and breathing at the same time are beyond my mental capabilities, and remember how my deep sighing used to disturb people who were taking exams at the same time as me.
Anyway, I half finished an intentionally rather sinister Humpty Dumpty and the complete focus that was needed was great for chilling me out after the morning's refereeing in the boys' bouts of arguing - so exhausting.
Had a meeting in the evening with the other two people who are hosting the joint 40th, 50th and 60th fancy dress party that we are holding later in the year and seem to have sorted out what we are going to do.

Feel guilty saying this, but I am a bit 'over' goldfinches. After pulling out all the stops to try to encourage them to visit our bird feeders they now are definitely the most frequent visitors with up to 30 at a time. They also make the most unbelievable amount of mess.
I hold my breath when I take photographs, especially in close!! then everything goes misty as i exhale ha ha!! so understand what you are saying!! Thought of you and your boys yesterday saw this wonderful saying...'smile, they will either smile back or you will irritate the shit out of them, either way, you win'!!
Super shot. love the way you have captured the aggressive "top dog "!! trying to ward off the other which you have captured supremely in flight trying to land --Ha !! as if there was not enough seeds for the whole thirty or so !!
re the gold finches, we loved them coming to our bird table to eat the niger seeds but as we were away for six weeks in the middle of winter they seem to have taken the huff & we haven't seen one since...so disappointing! Great squabbling birds.
Beautiful birds! FABULOUS capture!! You really caught an intense interaction there. Sorry that some family interactions have been intense also. :-(
That looks like a brand new bird feeder, all shiny and clean.
This is an instant FAV. WOW.
