skeletal tree

We still have quite a lot of snow lying around and the outside taps are still frozen which means carrying water up to the animals (grrr!) At least the path to the field is clear so I can use the wheelbarrow to carry the water containers from the top of the garden. It still means carrying them from the house, up two sets of steps and up the garden to the barrow, but that's better than carrying them the whole way. If there was any justice in the world I would be a size 10 with muscles like Popeye. Actually, I might have the Popeye muscles but being far from a size 10 they are not so obvious.

I 'welcomed' home an extremely grumpy, very tired Sam. Doesn't look like much sleep was got at the sleepover, just before embarking on a job I have been meaning to do for months. Yes, I finally got round to sorting out our three freezers. Supremely satisfying to have it finished and I now know what has been lurking in there, possibly for years. My New Month's resolution is going to be to use up as much as possible. There are now tonnes of fruit in the chest freezer in one of the stables, so I am going to have to find some ways of being creative with probably about 20lbs of gooseberries, and the same of plums.

In the afternoon Sam showed me a rather suspicious looking red patch on one of his arms which I suspect might be ringworm or something similarly revolting, so a trip to the pharmacist is on the cards for tomorrow. In retrospect mentioning the word 'worm' in relation to something that appears to be growing on him was probably a mistake. I am not sure that my trying to convince him that what he probably has is fungal, more like athletes foot than a creature burrowing under his skin, was entirely successful or satisfactory, so don't know how much sleep he is going to get as a result. He is a bit of a drama 'king' at the best of times. Thinking about the nature of his questions, I now suspect that he thinks that for fear of him peforming some kind of 127 hours-inspired self-amputation I am hiding from him the fact that he has some kind of parasitic worm, the like of which he has been grossed-out by on one of the many gruesomely compulsive TV programmes he watches on the topic.

Watched 'One Born Every Minute' and had a bit of a strop when Graham told me that it is 'shit' TV. Actually, deep down I know that that is true, but nevertheless managed to get through a significant number of tissues this week. Must stop watching it, although in reality will probably watch it because of what Graham said, because sometimes I just have to act like a petulant child. Well, being surrounded by them, it's bound to rub off isn't it?
Love your funny story of which so much i can relate to!....and love this beautiful shot, just gorgeous Jan! : )

Bleak tree

Wonderful bleak tree - If you showed someone this they would never guess it was spring! I watch one born every minute and as a qualified midwife I can say with absolute certainty that it is not shit TV. Actually it is reality (I know, having worked at Kings and Tommys!) Last night's episode was very sad and I think those parents were amazingly courageous! Off my soap box now. If Sam has ringworm you all have to be treated (sniggers!)

Great shot and it does look bleak. Keep thinking blue sky and some warmth will arrive but it is taking its time.
Re "one born every minute" not an avid watcher but jaw dropped when I saw a person on there I used to work with!!! Small world, love the stories re the boys not sure it gets better as they get bigger but spose thats not what you want to hear. Keep clicking

Great composition in an otherwise drab environment. (Well, that is all you have to work with unfortunately. I have been dealing with that all winter!
I have been following your weather, and it is not nice.Very unpredictable if you are not used to it.

Men don't like ''One born every minute! There is something about ringworm that is unsettling we used to get it odd times but it soon clears up with some cream.....smothering it with sticking plaster was OK too if not a big area.
I feel for you carting water up & down ...such heavy stuff!! Love your lone tree, hope your snow goes soon.

Well I blame the internet. NHS online states that 'all cat bites' should be treated with antibiotics. But it's Good Friday and the cat has only stuck one of her teeth right through my finger. I'm thinking that as she's on antibiotics (hence the finger in the mouth) and I'd just given her some toothpaste stuff I won't die of meningitis or myocardial infection at least until after the weekend.... Tell him you only get ringworm if your bedroom isn't tidy....

lovely tree... hope your son isn't too freaked out!

Oh No Judith. That's a bit of a pain about the cat bite (hate giving ours pills.) I managed to convince myself I was going to get toxoplasmosis when I was pregnant.

Having done some more detailed online investigating (yuck!), I don't think Sam's patch is ringworm, so have slapped a bit of anti-fungal cream on it and it is fading fast. Will definitely try the tidy bedroom thing in the future tho.

Groovy minimalism

Excellent example of an Extreme Lone Tree. Sorry you had to work so hard to water your animals. You sure get a workout. Us city folk pay good money for gym memberships to get a workout like that. LOL
Another Fav.
