well hello there by jantan

well hello there

Woke today to find an e mail from Sam. Not overly wordy as he is obviously having a really good time. He said that he has been enjoying the snowboarding but on Thursday lost his confidence because he fell off and pulled a "tendent" in his arm and coincidentally his mate who he shares a room pulled the same "tendent." Have to say the word in all of this that pleased me most was "mate" he has obviously found some friends which is great because he didn't know anybody else who was going on the trip. Apparently yesterday was a better day confidence-wise.

Got through a few chores that I have been putting off for ages this morning. It is amazing the difference a bit of warmish bright weather makes to the motivation levels.

Graham and three other men who live nearby went on a shopping trip to a wood burner showroom this afternoon. Of course he was 'only going to have a look.' He is desperate to get one or two woodburners, I am not so keen. I love the open fire. We have open fireplaces in in our living and dining rooms although we never use the dining room one. I might have to back down and agree to the dining room one as it would to some degree heat the rest of the house. He was obviously confident that this was going to be the case because he had already arranged for someone to come round and measure up next Saturday. Hmph! Oh yes, and his main selling point is that it is going to save us a fortune. I know oil is incredibly expensive at the moment, but the price of a load of logs has increased by about 50% in the last year and with the cost of buying it and installing it being about £2,000 I reckon it's going to take quite some time to pay for itself. It must be some kind of primeval 'man' thing.

Late in the afternoon I took my camera up into the field to see how the donks and goats were enjoying the sunshine. I sat down at the top of the hill enjoying the view of the valley. Joey was grazing nearby and the other three donks were messing about on a little bit of land that goes off the main field. At one point I turned round and this was the sight I saw. Joey is a bit of a loner, but he always comes over to me and today was no exception. He stood right next to me for ages and was soon joined by the other old boy donk. It was lovely to sit there with them right next to me dozing in the sunshine while I stroked their faces. Bless 'em.

Almost finished listening to "The Snow Child." Didn't think it was going to be my kind of thing, but have really enjoyed it.
Great shot and pleased to hear the little fella is enjoying the USA. Talk about resilient to change when did we lose it as an adult!!!

I like him

Sweet shot. I love how his fur sort of separates and goes in different directions. Being a city kid, I'm not sure I've seen a donk up close and personal. Charming.

Ahh, lovely portrait of your 'donk'. His ears look great against that lovely blue sky. I agree, a bit of sunshine makes all the difference to our mood. Long may it last!

This is a lovely photo. Perfect donk:blue sky ratio!

Glad the no news = good news was right re Sam. And burners *are* more efficient heatwise - tho as you say how long it takes for them to be £2k more efficient I have no idea! If you get a back boiler it can heat water to use/run radiators elsewhere though.

Bless his heart!! He's an old boy who knows a good thing when he sees it. Will you send Graham over to have words with Nigel? I'm desperate for a wood burner but he says it will be too hot!

Forgot to say - you need to be careful with your tendents!

Wonderful shot...and shadow capture...I really like the angle. Glad Sam is having a good time and hope he doesn't hurt any more 'tendents'.

Joey is such a lovely Donk and is very photogenic :)

You can almost see his personality in the photo :)
Did I see one of your Donk photos in the National Trust magazine a little while ago?
Oh and snowboarding is apparently very addictive....my middle son, who is a snowboarder, went to work in the French Alps for the season as a gap year before uni.....ten years on he's still on his "gap year" and is back in the Alps after spending his time boarding all over Europe and in NZ, I don't think he saw a Summer for about seven years!

@bluefirebucket haha, that is so funny about the gap year(s) I have a feeling that my eldest will do something the same with scuba diving - he wants to become an instructor in Asia during his pre uni gap year - at least it will be warm I suppose! Yes you did see my pic in the NT mag - I was a runner up in the smartphone category.

Aw, what a sweet boy Joey is, coming over to say hello to you. I like the way their fur is long and grows in odd directions. Gives him a scruffy, huggable look.
