ferns

I love the way that these ferns remind me of fossilised ammonites when they are at this stage

The donkeys had their annual visit from the equine dentist this afternoon. Not my favourite event of the year, the sight of them with gag in their mouths and the noise of their teeth being rasped makes me shudder.

They each behaved exactly as I would have predicted with Joey Boy and Lilly just standing their resigned to their fate, Jack making a bit of a half-hearted show of resistance and Angus being a bit of a sod. He is definitely a little donk with a lot of attitude at times.

Here is a link to a shot of Lilly undergoing the torture last year

Lovely textures in your bracken. You don't make Angus wear that for the dentist do you? He might not be getting on with his art but still.... ;0)

Feathery fronds. Always made me think of dragons as a kid. 'Spose for the same bony, coiled, archaic sort of look that triggers your fossil.

Poor donks. I feel their pain. Randomly enough I had human-dentist the same day.

Very cool shot. I dread equine dentist visits, but the horses don't seem to mind it. I have a mini donk that I expect to revolt the first time she is done.

@ridley Yep, the small ones are always the worst

They remind me of little curled up caterpillars. Wonderful close up xx

this is so loverly, I have ferns in my yard and never really looked at them, but I will now, poor donkeys, but it has to done I suppose.

These look like the kind of ferns my daughter gathers to put on pizza in the spring, they call them fiddleheads and they are great fried up too.

@sailingmusic Wow, I have never heard of anybody eating ferns before. I guess you would have to be really careful to get the right ones because I know that bracken is really poisonous.

Fabulous! I love the DOF and composition.

Aw, I looked at the link to last year's donkey torture. Poor sweet little things. That sounds SO unpleasant for the cute donks. And that Torture Device! They must have nightmares and flashbacks for months afterwards. :-0
I hope they got nice treats when it was all over.
