@rosiekind Thanks Rosie. It's strange but we often see the green ones when we are out in our fields, but not often in the garden. The greater spotted ones are much rarer round here and I have never seen a lesser spotted one.
Jammy you getting this shot. He has clocked you. Great focus, he can be seen in his full glory. We have a couple too but they eat the ants so anything that halts the coming of the flying ants is a bonus I'd say!
Oh well done capturing him. I see two flying up the lane in front of my car every day but have never seen them settle anywhere to take a shot. I don't think it's a bad shot at all.
We got one for a short while pre cats - never any other birds anywhere near - seemed to have been intimidated by the big beak. At least your lawn will be aerated!
Never saw one of these before...beautiful woodpecker! And grubs can do more damage than him probably if they run amok...agree with many..he's like an aerator for your lawn.
