green woodpecker by jantan

green woodpecker

looks even worse large

terrible photo, but used for diary purposes.

This chap is now a frequent visitor to our garden. All very lovely, but he is playing havoc with the lawn, digging it up to get insects and grubs.
im doing an envious face! ;-)

Yes, but you're so lucky to get this visitor...the lawn can renew itself!
Great shot!

Lovely shot. Never seen one before.

A terrible photo is better than no photo! It's a great capture, I've never seen this bird before.

wow great capture

Great shot. Never saw one of those here.

Lovely shot. The detail is great.

Such a lovely image. You have captured the Woodpecker so well :)

I've got spotted ones who visit me but green ones are so much rarer and you hardly ever see them so you've done well to get this chap!
June 27th, 2013
@rosiekind Thanks Rosie. It's strange but we often see the green ones when we are out in our fields, but not often in the garden. The greater spotted ones are much rarer round here and I have never seen a lesser spotted one.

Jammy you getting this shot. He has clocked you. Great focus, he can be seen in his full glory. We have a couple too but they eat the ants so anything that halts the coming of the flying ants is a bonus I'd say!

Great capture,haven't seen one before!!
June 27th, 2013
Great shot they arent easy capture believe me I know I have tried! they always remind me of tigger the way they bounce along the ground!
June 27th, 2013
Oh well done capturing him. I see two flying up the lane in front of my car every day but have never seen them settle anywhere to take a shot. I don't think it's a bad shot at all.
June 27th, 2013
I usually hear them in our garden before I see them. They have a 'thing' for the telegraph pole at the end of our driveway xx
June 27th, 2013
Wow! So neat to see birds from other countries!
I think it's a great shot - you did wonderful catching him. This shot is better than no shot at all.

We got one for a short while pre cats - never any other birds anywhere near - seemed to have been intimidated by the big beak. At least your lawn will be aerated!
June 28th, 2013
Never saw one of these before...beautiful woodpecker! And grubs can do more damage than him probably if they run amok...agree with many..he's like an aerator for your lawn.
