a loveliness of ladybirds

When I looked up the collective noun for ladybirds I discovered that it was a 'loveliness.' Unfortunately this was not authenticated, but it is so nice I am going to call them that anyway.

Unfortunately these are all harlequin ladybirds which have recently been introduced to this country and are threatening our native varieties. So not so lovely at all really.

These ones are settling down for their winter hibernation in the rim of the bin where we keep our pig food.

Had a really crap haircut today. Very posh wedding tomorrow ........... sulking!
Great find!!!

wow I thought they were fake for a minute, I hope we don't get them here, we have little enough of our own ones.

What a fantastic collective noun and brilliant find. I especially like the one with a single flower each side. I too had a bad hair do not long ago plus I asked for the colour to be toned down and I came out looking grey! Even my son said as soon as he got off the bus "mummy why are you grey". It was awful. Bet you look lovely!

I can see the difference with these larger spot ladybirds...they look as though they could bully our own little ladybirds.
I love the collective noun loveliness whether it's right or not!!
Sorry about your hair so easily happens & I'm sure it's not as bad as you think...have a lovely day!

Asian beatles. But I like calling them Lady bugs just so people will tell me they are Asian beatles. You would think that after 10+ years I would know that they are Asian beatles and not lady bugs. But we have a lot of them here also, I have drank them in my coffee, soda pop, milk and water maybe even in tea.I have had them in every kind of food you can think of. There is noway I have not tried them and I still don't want to eat them. Have you ever found a good way to eat them?

They look attractive, but shouldn't you be eliminating them? And wear a headpiece of some sort to disguise the crap haircut :-)

"lovely" is an adjective I find myself using all too often on here, but a loveliness of ladies is perfect. Are you going to do a selfie so we can all enjoy the crap haircut?

I meant ladybirds not ladies - one too many glasses of wine.

Condolences on the crap haircut - v annoying, that, particularly when you can see it getting crapper & crapper as they go, and you start desperately hoping that its going to miraculously improve before that moment they'll expect you to admire yourself AND congratulate them...ugh.

Last time we found Harlequins back in the shire we reported them to the ladybird police: http://www.harlequin-survey.org/recording.htm . They don't care about them in our neck of the woods any more, but I think they're still interested near you.

Ah, that's what they're up to as I have loads all over the the place... shame about the crap haircut :-(

It's a fantastic shot even though they are the enemy! Sorry about your haircut, nothing worse, I know.

Very cool find. I did some research and they are called Asian Lady Beatles, here. I have never seen them, but our climate might be to cold.

That's interesting as I did not know the harlequin had been introduced. I am recording any ladybirds I find on a phone app for a monitoring project and have identified quite a few harlequins so far :-(

Interesting looking ladybugs...too bad they are interfering with the native ones....are they destructive or bad other than that?
When I cut our grass on Friday, it was awash in ladybugs...I always see the most at this time of year...hope they got settled before yesterday's snow!
