confined to barracks

second hoof abscess in a month for poor old Joey Boy. So, apart from having his foot soaked in warm water and epsom salts for fifteen minutes a day (just in case you have never tried to get a donkey to stand still with its foot in hot water for fifteen minutes, I can tell you it is no mean feat.); having a hot wet poultice applied to draw out the gunk (just in case you have never had to put a hot poultice onto a donkey's foot and secure it in place with a disposable nappy and copious amounts of duct tape, I can tell you that that is no mean feat either); and being shut in, this means that Angus, Joey's 'friend' (Donks should always have a friend) also has to stay in.

This does not go down well with Angus. Especially when he can smell that Lilly, our only girl donk is in season. It's not like he could do anything particularly 'productive' about her being in season, but it doesn't stop a boy wanting to try. So every time I go to feed and muck out, Angus spends the whole time I am there nudging the stable door with his nose. I still haven't taken the hint.....

Thanks for the lovely welcome back yesterday.
oh how sweet i love this

What a lovely shot and thank you for the story. I can imagine a little bit the difficulty of getting a donkey to keep its foot in hot water for 15 mins as we had to get Jinks to keep his foot in warm salted water for 2 mins - which was no mean feat either, so I do sympathise. Hope Joey is better soon.

Poor Joey and Angus. We never did succeed in getting Tai to stand with his foot in hot water. We had to resort to holding his hoof up and pouring it over.

At first glance you are presented with a curious three-eared animal which forces you to search the picture to work out what is going on. Great picture and story.
