reflected yearnings

Went to the theatre in Oxford with my Mum and Sister in Law today. I had bought them early Christmas presents to see the matinee performance of Westside Story, which is currently on tour. Have to say, musicals aren't particularly my thing but they both love them, and I did enjoy this one. The performance was slightly marred by the man in the seat directly behind my Mum having a bit of a funny turn and the whole row having to be evacuated while his wife was asking him quite loudly if he was going to throw up. Not very conducive to concentrating on the action.on stage but my Mum remained oblivious to it as she was so captivated. One of the things I love so much about my Mum is that she is such an enthusiast. Meanwhile, I spent the time fretting about whether I should alarm her by telling her that she might want to think about putting her coat on with the hood up.

The man abandoned the first half but was back for the second looking no worse for wear. To be honest, I was feeling slightly queasy myself and wondered if he too was in fact just suffering the effects of sitting in such close proximity to my Mum who had had to be begged to stop trying out the perfume testers in Debenhams once she had got to the the fourth different variety. See what I mean about her being enthusiastic?

We had quite a nice, early dinner after the show and headed home on the train.

I went straight to our friends' house where Graham and some other friends were all meeting for the evening and was almost moved to tears when their daughters, aged seven and five, greeted my late arrival by running up to me and giving me big hugs - as I have said before, it doesn't take much to set me off these days! Maybe they were so pleased to see me because they knew that I would be a bit of a soft touch when it came to looking for someone to help them with their new sticker books.

I took this shot towards the end of the evening when I noticed Ripley their parents' Labradoodle who they are looking after while her 'parents' are away, reflected in the fridge door. She spent the whole evening staring longingly at a whole Iberico ham which you can just see the trotter of, together with its red and white cord, on the right of the shot. It's a good job that we were in the same room as it because Ripley does have a bit of 'form' when it comes to unattended food and dustbins.

Got home too late, happy but tired. But hey, the clocks went back, so who cares?
i really like this shot, there is something mysterious/interesting about it. I enjoyed reading your post too! :D

Oh I've been there with trying on the perfume!! We took the kids to see Beauty and The Beast in Manchester years ago and Adam said he felt sick just as we sat down. The Palace Theatre has almost vertically stacked seats and I realised with horror that he could potentially take out about 20 rows of innocent theatre goers. I convinced myself that he'd just got a bit excited but in the evening he was sick as a dog - we still cringe now at the potential disaster. Oh and my friend Rebecca was forced by her mother to go to the theatre when she felt sick. Half way through the performance things took a turn for the worse. She was on the front row of the Bolton Octagon - theatre in the round - and had to run across the stage projectile vomiting on the pretend lawn. And the following day her mum insisted that she go and apologise to the theatre staff!!
