This is Angus. He is one of the oldest two donks that we foster from the Donkey Sanctuary. It is pure coincidence that he shares the same name as our eldest son.
Joey Boy's hoof abscess is better so he and Angus are back out. There has been a bit of argy bargy between Angus and the young pretender Jack, probably in competition for Lilly. Here, although he probably doesn't know it, he is demonstrating the Flehmen Response to check out the competition. It is something which is done by lots of animals including hoofed mammals and felines where they close their nostrils when they inhale and draw the air into a special sensory organ in the roof of the mouth.
Reading your text, I tried to do that myself (Flehmen response) but failed miserably. So glad the donkey health problem is resolved and I like your shot!
Nicely sharp portrait. I wonder if people ever had a special sensory organ in their mouths - apart from the tongue, that is. You learn something new everyday on 365!
@padlock ha, that really made me laugh. He does look pretty irresistible (took me four goes to spell that word properly!) doesn't he? I will try to find a pic of Lilly's come hither look -even better!
