Apologies for not being on here much over the past few days we had a meeting at Angus' school about university applications (gulp!) on Tuesday evening, and I have been really busy in the daytime.
Not much time for photos, and the weather has been pretty dire with lots of rain and thick cloud most of the time, but I had to have a very quick play with my new coffee machine. Well it was supposed to be a coffee machine anyway because I asked for money from my family for my recent 50th birthday so I could buy one. Instead I succumbed to temptation and upgraded my 50mm f1.8 to a new (well, new to me anyway) 50mm f1.4 lens. I think it is going to take a bit of getting used to, as focusing is really difficult (and dare I say, not particularly good) when it is wide open, but as soon as you get above f2 things really start to look up.
These cyclamen are naturalised in the grass just next to our garden gate. One good thing about having to wear waterproof trousers to avoid being covered in snotty muddy nose prints when I go to feed the pigs is that I don't mind kneeling down in the wet grass to get a shot. God knows what the neighbours must think.
thanks @padlock . After doing a week's work experience in an architecture firm and another one in a civil engineering firm in London last summer he is certain he wants to do civil engineering, and pretty sure he wants to go to Leeds or Sheffield to do it. That might change once we start visiting universities I suppose. I know when I was at his stage I was convinced I wanted to go to Liverpool, but as soon as I visited Manchester I fell in love with the place.
Who needs coffee when you can have photos like this! Do I have to tell you how very lucky you are to have something blooming at this time of year? I envy you. I also envy you your new lens...my macro is getting a little long in the tooth me thinks. I think you're getting the hang of your new lens, this is so beautiful.
We were going to treat ourselves to a lovely heavy Italian coffee machine after we moved and finally had space for it, and still haven't. One day. At least you have a Cool Camera Thing instead - the technicalities are a bit beyond me, as my very limited understanding has only regressed since my SLR was nicked - but I really like the patch of clarity here.
