Lilly is our only female donkey. Female donkeys come into season once every three weeks, and the season lasts for a week. During that time she drives the boys wild, and believe it or not this facial expression is part of the reason why. It is usually accompanied by gnashing of the teeth, drooling and 'winking' of her 'lady bits.' You can see why they find her hard to resist can't you?
Here endeth today's lesson in donkey behaviour.
I know they look absolutely filthy because I have more or less given up grooming them at the moment because as soon as I do they go straight out and roll in the mud.
This photo is taking so long to load.......I want to see it from the thumbnail and the story I think it could be a fave...damn slow Indian internet. I think I'm going to have to fave it without seeing the big one then I can see it when I am home :oD
haha...the owner of my stable wants a donkey....this is why we don't want one....LOL! Although, we have heard they will protect the herd from coyotes and wolves.....decisions, decisions.....
@kathyo they are often used to protect sheep etc. from wolves and coyotes which is why you have to be really careful with dogs around them. Last year the hunt 's hounds all ended up in our field when they were chasing a fox (grrr!) and the donks charged at them and chased them off.
Every three weeks? And you don't have lots of baby donkeys? A friend of ours has trained her horse to protect her chucks from foxes - it's all very complicated - we went for a fence!
@jantan There is no hunt club in the area, so no worries about dogs....but I'm not sure we could get used to the braying.... :) The coyotes haven't bothered the horses...yet....but they are living in the area for sure.
Lily certainly knows how to strut her stuff.... bless her heart.... I had no idea that female donkeys had a season every three weeks.... I don't know who to feel more sorry for... Lily or the males..... lol!! ♥
So, who is the lucky guy?
