I was supposed to go to a sugar house tomorrow but my great grandniece came over this morning and we went for a ride. Went to a place that made chocolates and maple syrup candy and then to a sugar house. Lots of buckets hanging in them there woods.
You've taught me something today Joan - I always assumed that maple syrup was made by boiling up the fruit of the tree - didn;t realise that it was made from the sap. Learning every day... sigh!
@vignouse I take it they don't do this in France. And there is no fruit of a maple tree. This is an old fashioned method of collecting. I will be posting more pictures through out the week. By the way maple syrup on pancakes for supper. YUM
@atwinfay It is not running very much this year either. Especially bad for some of the smaller sugar houses. The sap freezes in the buckets before they can collect it.
Wow, I'm surprised the sap is running as it's continued to be quite cold. Used to love going to New Hampshire and Vermont when I was much younger for maple sugar season. Great capture Joan!
@johenn Most buckets today are plastic and also a lot of sap goes straight to either large containers or the sugar house straight through plastic tubing. Watch for more pics.
@barbarajdonnellan Running very intermittently but they have to have the buckets up to be prepared. Not a good year, but they say last year was a bonus year.
@joansmor Oh, yes, here and Vermont (which only 45 minutes away). But not usually so picturesque. Lines of plastic tubing or maybe plastic buckets but usually lots of plastic tubing.
