I have been following this week @taffy's mentor group. They are working on architecture. Thus I have been noticing my surroundings. Well this isn't exactly about architecture but I am looking at it as seeing the forest now I have to go find the tree. Just so people know @ vignouse is my mentor and he is wonderful and is happy that I want to study what another group is doing.
@taffy this is me honoring your mentor group. They have all responded warmly to my tracking of their projects. I was sad when you left Beaver Island but I am quickly falling in love with Chicago. Now I hope you can love a little the city I work in.
@vignouse I remembered this time to clone out a couple of unnecessary and distracting bits. So thanks for helping me make this a better picture by you constant reminders of this failing of mine.
There's lots to like about this Joan, and lots to look at! The high contrast B&W delineates the various structures well. Mentor's picky comment - your verticals aren't quite... vertical that is. Well done on remembering the detail tidying-up - it does make a difference.
There is so much to look at here...the architecture, the harbor perspective, the sky, the water. I am certainly not an expert but did pick up on what Richard mentions about the verticals.
@vignouse you know I almost posted this in color yesterday and thought I had already run the straighten. OPPS. It works so much better in bw glad I waited.
@barbarajdonnellan I swear I tilt because I find this in a lot of my photos and usually correct it as I mentioned to @vignouse I thought I had done it. Sometimes I get focused on one aspect and don't notice other. Today I was focused on the contrast.
That is so cool that you are watching our group! And I've been following Richard's suggestions to you as well. This is fantastic -- and certainly does fit our theme. You've caught so many details of the shipyard in the shadow of the city. As we work on features of architecture a few things I noticed...one is that the image leans a tad to the left -- you could straighten in picmonkey and not lose any comments. The other thing I assume is that you wanted us to have the big picture. We've been working on the balance of big picture with having something the eye is clearly supposed to focus on. What would you say the most important focal area is in the photo?
Lovely to see you following our group. Great in b and w. It looks like you could find lots of trees in here to focus on. It looks like there is a mixture of architecture here.
@atwinfay I was reviewing my early project and seeing who first followed me. You and Gena were my most earliest supporters and I am so thankful for that.
@taffy@vignouse I used picmonkey for the first time and think I have straighted it. It was tricky because when it but the lines down over my picture they seemed to line up but I moved it a tad to the left and I think it lined up a little better.
Taffy my eye is always drawn to the Key Bank building in bw and in white (the building with the white cap and so many windows they look like lines. But I knew it was a little busy. I just fell in love with it. Feels so like what I think of Portland as being harbor and small city.
I was meaning about you saying in your comment that you were looking at like a forest and now need to find the tree. I think there are lots of buildings and details of buildings in this shot that would be wonderful on their own. Sorry to confuse!!
@newbank Chalk it up to early morning. Yes there are a lot of trees. Watching your groups photos for ideas how to approach. Not been happy yet. With my earlier attempts.
To my eyes very thing looks perfect but then I'm new to photography and I don't know anything. Super clear shot with lots to look at! Love your picture...
