I was out in the kitchen and had the camera set up for bird pictures and Two did her thing. There were two birds but the female cardinal was on the dark side. Even this one the feather fluffy near the tail look blurred. Boy this bird picture thing isn't easy. Not supposed to be taking pictures need to clean house. Bad-Bad.
While I would like to see less birdfeeder and one bird is not a bad shot Joan. When photographing birds must realize there are always outside interference you have the wind blowing the feathers you have the birdfeeder that moves either in the wind or from the birds coming and going we have the Birds themselves who don't always pose well. Now Birds head is nice and shop you caught a glimmer in his eye. You caught all the identifiable parts to him at least from this view. Stop beating yourself up enjoy what you did capture.
Oh Joan, I know just what you mean. I have pictures to take; a house to clean; books to read;work to do. I need a 48 hour day! Love the little bird, he's so cute
I'm with Jan @janiskay on this - it's really not bad at all, especially as you're just starting out in bird photography. The point of focus is in front of the bird, more or less in the centre of the picture, which accounts for the lack of definition in the feathers. Bird photography is difficult - you should consider this very acceptable image as encouragement to do more.
@vignouse You know I am finding the point of focus difficult on this new lens. Battle enough with the old. The biggest problem is I get excited. Like flowers when I have taken enough I will be more analytical and less excited (I hope).
@janiskay I labeled it a chickadee but nice to know precisely. One more thing to add to out list or rather one more place. The Audubon place in Falmouth. Then you can teach me to photograph them in the wild. That will be fun.
Lovely capture Joan. When i take bird shots and if i want the whole bird in focus i would be using F7.1. If it is a busy background which I want it to be out of focus I would use F5.6. It's worth experimenting for what effect you want but as long as the eyes are in focus it can be a really good capture. You have to decide what dof you want.
Joan, I think this is a great capture of this black capped chickadee! They flit around so quickly, I've yet to get a satisfactory shot of one although they are at my feeder frequently. They are so very cute. And you got the catch light in his eye which, to me, is what makes bird photos come alive. Fav
@joansmor yes the main out of mine would be a wonderful place to go for birds. But keep in mind when they are in the wild they are headed to capture than they are when they're sitting on your birdfeeder. I thought perhaps on the way out of Florida we could stop at one of my favorite places to capture Birds and you could get a taste there. That would be mostly waiting Birds return Bodger and much easier to photograph as they stand and pose quite often.
