bracket test

My get pushed challenge by @sathi was to practice bracketing outside. I tried up and down f-stop tests. I must admit that I don't like the in camera adjustments, being old school, I like on the lens f stop adjs. When I went digital, I started to concentrate in color so I mostly stayed in program mode. I truly appreciate this challenge because it re-introduced me to setting my parameters for my shots, which I always do when I work with my 8x10 field camera but, that's B&W film. I am always learning and re-learning so onward I trudge with my art. Thank you Heather for the challenge.

Digital in camera bracketing is most useful for pictures with a lot of contrast as with a dark room interior with bright (burnt out ) windows. Bracket three shots, process in HDR & get the best of bright & dark. I use AV mode so that the aperture & depth of field are under control first. It does depend on the subject though.

I bracket a lot, because you're never sure when you're going to run out of dynamic range and clip those highlights or shadows. Obviously not so easy with moving images!
That shot's really nice in its own right, actually.

@paulmann @pasttheirprime Thanks, I am just being a fus-budget about this in camera thing. I know that I should just get over it and do it. I see and understand the benefits. I am doing some testing in HDR and look forward to learning more.

It doesn't have to be HDR, as in HDR software. Capturing more dynamic range can be done with digital blending, which can generally give much more natural results. Even Trey Ratcliffe, HDR guru, actually uses digital blending of HDR software produced shots into his normally processed versions of his shots. If you want to know a bit more, google Jimmy McIntyre, or look up "www.throughstrangelenses.com", but you will need Photoshop.
Aplogies if you're already up to speed on this.

@pasttheirprime Thank you a great deal. I am always open to learn more and even re-learn as needed. I will google Jimmy McIntyre and look at that page.
This is what is another wonderful thing about 365- help and assistance.

Beautiful colors.

@sdutoit Thank you, I now will put this learning into practice. I think that my tripod will become my best buddy - bracketing to create HDR is a really cool path.
