@777margo Well I never thought about that Margo! Had to look it up. They're covered to protect the bridge from the elements and also for protection for travelers.
@777margo@joysfocus Another reason for the covered bridges was to keep the horses from freaking out when pulling wagons across the bridge. I didn't know there were any in California - good find! One of the subjects I try to seek out when in New England.
