Stop

We can put fences around our property, our hearts, our minds, but fences cannot protect us from aging. We start out as babies, impressionable, new. We grow and the world gets smaller. Our minds expand, bodies stretch, and the relationships we share with family and friends do the same. There’s no stopping it. No structure can be built to arrest our maturation. So when I see Diego, his eyes alight with discovery, his silliness pure, his understanding not yet informed by bias, I wish so much at times I could build a fence to protect us from changing from what we are now. Because that? That is perfect.
