I remember this lyric from a REM song that I loved when I was a kid. It was from a song called “Low” off their celebrated “Out of Time” record and it was, simply, “all full and glowy.” I have no idea what “glowy” is - maybe a southern alt-rock version of “aglow?” - and yet it seemed appropriate for this outside shot of the little man on his afternoon constitutional. The soap opera look of the shot isn’t from post-processing, but rather a filthy iPhone lens, undoubtedly clouded by the subject’s jelly-covered hands earlier in the morning. Regardless, I see the “glowy” effect as a happy accident, and now I feel like revisiting “Out of Time” for the first time in a long, long while.
