@narayani its commonly called Crown imperial (Fritillaria imperialis) a perennial spring bulb which grows to about 70-80 cm tall and the flower it anything up to 12 cm wide. Comes in orange and yellow. It is quite stunning. If I remember rightly I did grow one in Perth but I don't think it came back a second year!
