Another door closes... by judithg

Another door closes...

Well I've even bored myself with my frustration today so I'll give you the potted version. We have one of these contract things with British Gas where you can get appliances fixed. The engineer was due to come last night but they cancelled and gave me an appointment for this afternoon. I was feeling pretty pleased this morning when the snow was sitting perfectly on all the branches and had Monty's lead on ready to get my 'Christmas card shot' when the engineer called to say he was half an hour away. After an hour an a half of anxiously watching the snow melt and blow off the trees I phoned the call centre who said that the engineer 'had not called' me... Well I know I'm loosing my marbles a bit but not that much! Anyway - I was assured that he would not be coming until after 1pm and had Monty's lead on again when he called to say he was 10 mins away and had called me instead of somebody else this morning by mistake. As he stood in the kitchen petting Monty and telling me that he needed a spare part and couldn't do the repair the last of the snow ebbed away....
So you have a no snow shot of Trinity Hall.
Rueful laughter.
still a nice shot

Sounds like the repairmen in the US as well... frustrating! But I love this photo... snow not needed! FAV!

Who is this kind cyclist standing right in the right place? Can't be you as there is a rather large iron cage like door in between! Lovely colour and framing! fav

This story and the photo are lovely.

Fantastic composition and lighting!

Do you bribe bike people to appear in your shots! Nice frame. Sounds about right for the non fixing of your boiler.

@jennywren her friend was taking to her and wrecking the shot for ages - I nearly had to have a word ;0)

@judithg Move along there please!

Well I think you saved the day with this fav anyway Judith! I really must get out & do a properly composed artistic shot instead of silly people being hypnotised! Love looking through this gate at the cyclist ....that light is beautiful!

Oh how frustrating - one snowfall, one chance, and you're scuppered. Here's hoping for another snowfall tomorrow. It's a great shot nonetheless.

Trinity Hall looks good, pity about the snow. We have the same appliance cover, if you book online you can get a timed slot ! It is quite a good service mind you :)
February 3rd, 2015
@phil_howcroft oh I've been given timed slots Phil - they just don't stick to them. Monday's cancelled, today's in theory after 1pm!

@judithg oooh dear judith :(

Well that's a terribly frustrating tale, Judith. That woeful lack of 'communication' would tie in well with your choice of photo theme of the week if only the repairman's misdirected phone call had been photographed. :( So sorry for your missed opportunity for a snowfall capture. But this replacement shot is lovely!

It's a good shot even if the snow isn't there. I'm kind of hoping for more as I didn't get chance to take any shots of yesterday's or last Thursday's - but not tomorrow as I have a PhD supervision in Cambridge and don't want to have to drive in it. Have been wondering about a British Gas contract, but maybe it isn't a good idea!

Nice capture through the gate

And sorry to hear of the rubbish day...cannot stand the whole "...an engineer will visit between midnight and midnight.." malarky!
