I was feeling really rough again by last night and did not sleep well but was cheered up by a visit from an old friend this morning. After she left I opted for an early lunch and dog walk while there was still a chance of a blue sky rather than catching up with work and it turned into something of an adventure. We headed off to our favourite bit of towpath but weren't far along when the canon went off for the Lent Bumps (rowing races). It would have been a great photo op but I know from last year that Monty's response to the canon is the flight option of 'fight or flight'. It took me a while to realise that he had shot back to the car and was standing by it barking his head off. Knowing that there is quite a long time delay between races I stuck him on the lead and headed back off on the walk. And very lovely it was too but it was a big mistake. Three quarters of the way home the canon went off again and when one goes off there is another one a minute later. Monty shot under a hedge and would not come out. In the end (after a good 10 minutes or so of attempts at reassurance) I dragged him out, thankful for the expensive harness that doesn't come off over his head, and we made our way very slowly back to the car, with me practically carrying him by the harness like a large hairy handbag. A handbag that was shaking like a leaf....
The birds were out in force and I have quite a nice wren shot but I couldn't get as close as I did to the robins.
PS Thank you so much for the amazing response to my last two shots - I'm so pleased - really cheered me up this week.
What a wonderful Robin picture, the blue and red together are wonderful. Poor Monty, what a shock for him. I can't imagine he is easy to carry! Fav for this lovely pic
I was just about to comment on this when my B&B rang to say he was ready for picking up so I had to up sticks & go & fetch him. Beautiful co,ours here together....your Robin just knows where to show himself off best.
Poor Monty, how thoughtless of the to fire the cannon just when he was in the middle of his walk. You have to love the poor boy he is so needy bless him!
Ah, poor Monty - he should have had ear plugs! I think it would have given me a fright to but I don't think I would fit under the hedge! Another darling robin!
Super capture! I was walking the whippets up Bird Cage Walk when to my horror they set off the 21 cannon salute as I ambled by luckily I spotted it in time and got them on leads. They were remarkably unphased by all the booming!
