I am going to say that the UK has finally entered the 21st century by televising the Oxford and Cambridge Women's Boat Race live for the first time but I am sure there are quite a few people who think we would enter the 21st century by ignoring both women's and men's events! It is true that the entry requirements are a little narrow.
This pink bike lives permanently outside the Osprey Club which is the female version of the Hawks Club - both sporting societies. To become a member of the Hawks Club you have to have a Full or Half Blue or be in the 2nd team of a full blue sport (ie not tiddlywinks). You have to be proposed by a current member, seconded by a committee member and sponsored by six other members across a range of sports. This is how these places remain elitist though I'd like to think that they accept all eligible people these days. Membership appears to confer very few benefits at face value but you do get a special tie and a very large old boy network and a lot of boozy parties. The Ospreys appear to trust you to fill in your own form, have a diverse range of sports represented and (their website would suggest) have an open and efficient networking process. As they say, 'We’re Talented. We’re Ambitious. We’re Supportive. We’re a Light Blue Family.' I know which lot I'd rather join if forced!
Photo taken a few days ago - no walk today - Monty recovering from nasty bout of pancreatitis.
Well good for the girls......I hope they have a good race tomorrow! They have the lovely Clare Balding supporting them anyway....she is deserting Aintree! A very stiff entry criterion Judith...have they many members! A beautiful front door & a very pink bike, this is a very upmarket headquarters! Glad Monty is feeling a little better....poor lad, he has been through it lately!
I've just seen that item on the news. So how does that work then? I guess it's at a different time to the men's race? Looking forward to it. Love the pink bike.
Looks to be financially a positive club! Lovely white stone walls and hanging baskets plus the daffs in the window box! Very welcoming! Its that time of year again - rowing. Hope Monty recovers, never heard of pancreatitis in dogs!
NZ were just allowed to see what happened in the world of both female and male university rowers! Very exciting but the result was pretty obvious at the end!
