Just along from here is where the illegal punt operators gain access to the river. Since the council and Cam Conservators have been unable to stop them trading through the courts they are building a fence to stop the punts coming into the landing area. The nice lady at GHL punts, who are licensed and legal and have had to put up with years of hassle from the illegal types, was very happy and told me that I will still be able to get access so that Monty can have a drink and (I hope) can still get nice angles on river photos. Quite a few photos I've taken of that area will now be impossible but sadly the river has become dangerous and things will be much better. The council are also making touting in the town illegal and I will no longer be asked 400 times a day if I want to go punting. Much better for tourists to be taking tours with people who are properly insured and regulated of course.
