Another photo from yesterday with the beautiful low October sun casting shadows on the Bridge of Sighs at St John's and in the cloisters beyond. Rachel was home for a karate event so it was nice to catch up with her briefly this morning. I decided a bit last minute to bake a new recipe cake using some of the many Bramley apples on our tree. It looked amazing and I drove up to the karate in Huntingdon rather reluctantly to hand it over (I left it in Nigel's car - he nearly didn't pass it on either - but neither of us have tasted it so it may be rubbish!)
I've been leaving apples on my driveway for people to take and a couple of people have taken the trouble to leave thank you messages which is very nice. They have been disappearing at a steady rate - I hate the fact that so many are wasted every year so it makes me happy that they are taken (the only people I've actually seen take them were worse for wear - they looked and sounded really pleased as they meandered off with them but I hope they read the sign that said 'cookers'!) If the cake tastes good I think I'll try freezing slices to use later in the year.
We have never had thank you notices for our give away apples Judith so you are lucky....gives a nice feeling too. Our Bramley apple tree is in next doors garden, I will have to ask if I can pick some!
Amazing stripes of shadow then that long further on tunnel with the figures...well thought out!
Wonderful capture.....it really does look amazing on black!! I have always liked strong shadow patterns, and these are amazing!! Big FAV!!
As for the apples, I guess they must be good for cooking, but if you are hungry enough they should go down well for eating, too. Then, again, if you are getting thank you notes, maybe the people taking them are not as worse off as you surmise! Maybe the next time you could leave them an apple pie??!! ;-)))
A striking shot! We had free eating pears from a neighbour's tree and a friend gave Ray a big bag of fallen Bramleys which I've cooked - 'mellow fruitfulness'......
It's lovely to see the bridge from this angle, great shadows. The people next door but one to me collect the cooking and eating apples that fall in the garden across the back of all of ours. They put them out in boxes and say that any money donated will go to children in need. At the end of the year they put a note out to say how much they have raised which is often quite a bit.
